We recently launched our latest small-batch limited release beverage, Sunrise On The Vine, with a party on the Mirage yacht, a luxury catamaran anchored at Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront. And what a wonderful time we had celebrating this unique new brew!
Sunrise On The Vine is a wine-beer hybrid: a strong ale fermented with Sémillon grapes from the Franschhoek Valley and aged in 2007 red wine barrels. Drifter founder and director Nick wanted to expand consumers’ perception of what a beer can look and taste like, especially in a wine-focused country like South Africa. ‘We worked hard to marry the strong ale with the characteristics of the Sémillon grapes to create a product that would really showcase the best of both worlds,’ he says.
We produced just 1900 bottles of Sunrise On The Vine, and attendees at the launch party had the exclusive opportunity to be the first to taste the beer as well as to buy bottles and cases to take home. We also partnered up with our friends at Stanford’s Klein River Cheese Farmstead, who brought wheels of some of their finest cheeses for guests to pair with their bottles of Sunrise.
After a week of rain and cold, we were fortunate to wake up to clear skies and sunny springlike weather on Saturday August 24! From the harbour, we set sail accompanied by some pumping tunes, good food and drink, and loads of sunshine. We’re grateful to the incredible hospitality staff of Mirage, Klein River Cheese, and of course to everyone who joined us for this glorious day at sea!
