2019 Year in Review
December 30, 2019
As we wrap up 2019, we wanted to take a moment to look back on the milestones of the past year and reflect on how much Drifter has grown!
Over the course of 2019, we brewed 1824HL this year - that's 552,000 bottles of beer and gin and tonics... In other words, over half a million bottles!
We also got our automated bottling machine up and running, enabling us to really bottle at scale, standardised our date codes and labels, and built a new lab with advanced capabilities (we're now the only microbrewery in South Africa doing HLP testing).
And six new scallywags climbed aboard the Drifter crew, bringing our total ranks to 20!
Our products got a few new passport stamps! We attended 3 International trade shows representing Drifter and South Africa, and added 5 new countries to our export list -substantially growing our global footprint and brand recognition. We now export to China, UK, Canada, Singapore, Finland, Zambia, and Botswana. And we took to the skies as well, with our Gin and Tonic now available on all Kulula flights.
We brewed some fun and funky things in 2019! From The Hunt Is On to Cuppa and beyond, we made 8 speciality small batches this year (including Madora, the world's first ever bug beer!) And of course, after a year in the making, we launched our alcohol-free G+T.
We did our best to serve our community this past year. We went plastic-free on our 4-packs for El Capitan and Gin and Tonic by switching to recycled cardboard. In total, throughout the year, we donated R37,175 to non-profit organisations.
Last but not least, we were awarded Best Beer in Africa at the 2019 African Beer Cup! This was a huge honour for us and we were (and still are) grateful for the recognition - definitely a highlight of our 2019.
It's truly been a whirlwind of a year here at Drifter! We can't wait to see what 2020 brings...
